If you would like to see Dr Neilsen

Dr Neilsen is a specialist Sexual Health Physician and will generally see patients only on a referral basis. 

Generally, a GP referral letter will last for 12 months. 

Please ask your GP for a referral letter before you see Dr Neilsen.  By law, referrals cannot be back-dated.  A referral letter is essential for you to receive the full Medicare rebate. 

If you are not Medicare eligible or do not wish to claim a Medicare rebate, a referral is not required to see Dr Neilsen.

For GPs
If you would like to refer your patient to Dr Neilsen

Please forward all referrals directly to Dr Graham Neilsen, using Medical Objects if at all possible – or via our fax: 07 3857 2333. 

Examples include:

• HIV care and testing and management of other sexually transmitted infections including Hepatitis C.
• Gender-affirming treatment for transgender patients. Dr Neilsen is happy to assess transgender patients; make recommendations for hormone treatment; suggest options for surgical and other support services; and offer a shared-care model with support for GPs.
• Long-term management of sexual dysfunction.
• Initiation of testosterone PBS Authority prescribing for men with androgen deficiency.
  

For more time-limited conditions, your referral will be valid for 12 months. For some patients, it will be appropriate to make an indefinite referral.

Once you have made the referral, please ask your patient to make an appointment.
