Who We Are
Stonewall Medical Centre has been proudly GP-owned and operated in Brisbane since 1995, providing high-quality, inclusive healthcare to the local community.
Founded in partnership with the Queensland AIDS Council, Stonewall was established during a critical time in Brisbane’s history — shortly after the decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1991 and in response to the emerging HIV epidemic.
Initially, plans to open in Lutwyche Shopping Centre were denied due to fear and stigma surrounding the treatment of gay men and people living with HIV. Undeterred, our founders created a space where every patient could access compassionate, judgment-free healthcare.
In 2000, Dr David Orth and Dr Wendell Rosevear OAM formally purchased the practice, continuing the legacy of accessible, patient-centred care.
Today, Stonewall Medical Centre has grown into a fully accredited general practice, proudly serving a broad range of patients across Brisbane’s inner north and beyond.
Accreditation reflects our commitment to the highest national standards in clinical safety, quality care, and continuous improvement — giving our patients confidence they are in expert hands.
At Stonewall, our dedicated clinical team consists of 5 experienced General Practitioners, a skilled Nutritionist, a compassionate Body Psychotherapist, a Mental Health Occupational Therapist, and a supportive Counsellor. Discover more about each member of our team below.
Our Approach
At Stonewall, we believe healthcare should be evidence-based, compassionate, and accessible to all.
While we remain deeply committed to supporting Brisbane’s LGBTIQA+ community and people living with HIV, we also provide a wide range of general medical services for individuals, families, and businesses across the inner city.
Our GPs offer care across every stage of life — from childhood and preventive health checks to chronic disease management and mental health support — always with respect, expertise, and understanding.
We are proud to continue the mission that has guided us since our founding:
“To empower patients with the confidence to embrace their identities and live healthy, authentic lives.”
Our Growth and Community
In 2016, Stonewall Medical Centre underwent significant expansion, acquiring the neighbouring property to create a modern, welcoming space for our growing patient community.
This new extension was officially opened by The Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce, marking an important milestone in our story of resilience and leadership in Brisbane healthcare.
We honour our roots in sexual health and LGBTIQA+ medicine while continuing to broaden our services to meet the needs of the wider community.
Whether you are seeking preventive care, chronic disease support, travel medicine, mental health services, or sexual health advice, you are welcome here.
At Stonewall Medical Centre, we believe that everyone deserves to live well – with dignity, respect, and access to quality healthcare.
